Divided between the North and South Island, New Zealand has a cool, maritime climate with a focus on organic production of white, red and sparkling wines. Hawkes Bay in the north is well known for its Gimblett Gravels site, producing world-class Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah, whilst Central Otago in the south makes delicious Pinot Noir. Marlborough and Martinborough regions are more reputable for dry, crisp Sauvignon Blanc and sparkling wine.
