Merlot prefers a moderate to hot climate to ripen succesfully and is known for its ability to produce both easy-drinking and complex styles. Merlots home is Bordeaux in France, with top examples found in St Emilion and Pomerol, although this black grape variety has found many homes all over the world. Expect flavours of red plum, blackberry, mint and cedar.
